Description

This is Skunk Cabbage! YUM! LOL It grows in very moist locations. The photo here is one I took while visiting the Quabbin Reservoir in Massachusetts. It blooms in late winter and melts the surrounding snow or ice with the heat it produces! It can reach 60 degrees F. while it's freezing outside! Cool, eh? But there's a drawback--if you bruise the leaves it smells like a skunk or some people say like rotting meat :P Insects just adore this stuff, however... it's poisonous to animals and that includes us! Now, I'm not sure why...but dogs love to roll in this stinky stuff! Usually right after a bath! O.O So if fido comes home smelling like he rolled in a dead cow... it's probably Skunk Cabbage! LOL

I KNOW this weed up close and personal, and no...don't bring a clothespin...bring a gas mask!!! LOL It stinks THAT bad....but it sure do make a purty picture :-) {{{HUGS}}}

And I thought I would like anything that was green but I guess there's an exception to everything lol! Fortunately I haven't encountered any of this stuff but it's an excellent photo!!!

Hey! Just boil a bundle up, throw some mayonnaise on it, and serve with herring! I swear it's the best! lol! Great shot, and unlike most exotic plants where I live, this one's not illegal! Excellent work!
