Description

Inspired by the recent works of Robert Czarny who opened my eyes to the power of Vue 5 procedural terrains. Made with Vue 5 Esprit! 1 only procedural terrain. Texture i made from scratch for this scene with 3 types of rock and 2 types of grass. There are no bump maps in the texture, all the details, rocks and cracks are created with procedural functions in the terrain editor. I used only 3 simple variations of the distributed circles function, 1 big for the basic shape of the land and 2 smaller variations for the details. Like a lot of people i was scared by the procedural editor, but Roberts terrains made me want to learn this system and i achieved this result after only a short time learning/playing. Now you can scale this as large or small as you want or zoom right in and the details are still there. Best of all this is only on a 256x256 terrain so the whole scene is less than 1 million polygons! Comments appreciated. Thanks - Jeff

Very realistic ! It is great to finally see examples of what procedural terrains can do. No doubt your picture will inspire others in the same way czarnyrobert inspired you.

Great stuff Jeff, love it and this is the type of thing I'm currently trying to learn how to do, so very helpful you included how you did it :) One final question, what were the render settings used?
