Description

Prototype of an imperial heavy attack fighter to go along with my Adjustment-class attack carriers. The TIE/ra, nicknamed "Raider", is much more heavily armed than classic TIE-fighters. Its overall armament is somehow comparable to that of an alliance B-Wing. The Raider has the standard TIE autolasers below the cockpit to engage in close combat, but he is also equipped with two heavy laser cannons for long range engagement. The longer the focussing barrel of a cannon, the greater is its effective range, which is one of the known advantages of X-Wings and Y-Wings over traditional TIE variants. To supplement the basic armament, the Raider is armed with two medium ion cannons in its wingtips and a multipurpose module above the hull between the wing arrays, which can house additional weapons, depending on mission profile. The prototypes above are armed with a general purpose module, which houses two single-shot proton torpedo tubes and 18 anti-fighter missiles. Like the TIE Advanced, the Avenger and the Defender, the TIE Raider has protective shields and hyperjump capability. However, his shields are comparably weak, since most of its reactor power output is reserved solely for weapons and engines. Since it does not have a twin ion engine, it is not really a T.I.E. in the classic sense. Instead the Raider mounts a triplex ion engine, similar to that of the TIE Defender, but with an additional heavy reaction drive in the middle for increased attack and escape speed. Similar to the TIE Scimitar attack bomber, the cockpit of the Raider is pressurized and detachable, doubling as an escape pod for the two crewmen. This greatly increases crew survivability and has a great impact on moral and motivation. The Raider is not sceduled for mass production and currently only availlable in limited numbers, supplied exclusively to elite units of the empire.

It's an imperial Fighter, yeah. But the 'TIE' Name ist for standardization only, eh? I like it. Those crappy Linefighters are not that good anyway, so who needs classic TIE's?

Thanks. Most of all I wanted to make a "TIE style" fighter, that is not just "uber", supersized and overpowered, like most of the crappy designs the comics have brought us in the past years. It is a state of the art space superiority heavy attack fighter, much like the X-Wing or the K-Wing. Nothing more and nothing less.

Yes, excellent design. It's nice to see a new variation of a Star Wars design instead of a repetition of one. V

NICE!! I agree with amapitodd. I like the variation. Definately a nice "upgraded" model.

Hey, exellent work! Not such a boring ripoff like the TIE Hunter or the Defender. I really like it. Looks aggressive and enough like a TIE to appear imperial. Yet it has many new elements. ^_^

Cool! Excellent work! Much better than the dark horse crap or those ugly fighters in episode 3.

Very cool design addition for the Imperial fleet. Excellent detail in the modeling work and very well thought out. I always thought the entire TIE family had horrible blind spots for the pilot with those big ol wings on either side... I know there are instruments for flying but sometimes you gotta switch off your targeting computer... "red five standing by..."

I have only one criticism here... and that's the typo for "morale"... :oP Fantastic design and modeling here!!!

VERY nice. Everything is excellent. The TIE concern isn't really an issue since Triplex Ion Engine still comes down to T I E. Also like the 'spider' look of the fuselage.

This really is a fantastic concept. I love the way you have given the model similar qualities to the new jedi starfighters in episode III. first rate model.

Beyond outstanding ... an other example of your reputation for excellent well thought out design. I hope to see these posted to freebies. LOL. Perhaps you can help the empire out with ground fighting machines - instead of walkers that can be tripped by a rope. Thank you for sharing. Dwayne

I'm going to partially quote one of my favorite TV shows and say "Man, that TIE is bitchin!" Seriously, if the empire had had those things during Episode IV, the rebels definitely would have lost. BIG time... Anyways, I think it is absolutely fantastic. Keep it up.
