When playing with strata, you can create many BMP's from places around the world where one can view real strata outcroppings, to use on your renders. It will also give you a better idea on how nature displays it... so here goes! OK - here is my suggestions on strata... 1st: create a child layer on it, make color BLACK and adjust to give just enough depth (coverage) to make shadows on rock... 2nd: instead of such a RED color, make strata more of a brownish look to be more realistic (check http://www.visitsedona.com/ for example)... 3rd: suggest you make surf only 1 wave to make it look more realistic to the eye.

Can I say this was a great first attempt, more natural colours are a good hint. Also play a little with the lines, you have them ruler straight, and that doesnt happen in nature, break it up a bit, have some subtle curves and angles that make it look like it follows the terrain a bit more
