Description

Delft is one of the oldest Dutch cities. It has had an important role in Dutch history. William the Silent, who had an important role in leading our country to freedom, stayed here many times. He was assasinated in 1584 here in Delft. William the Silent was barried in Delft and many members of the Dutch Royal Family followed in the years to come. Many important Dutch painters lived here. One of the most famous was Johannes Vermeer. His art work is spread all over the world. This photo is taken today (April 2, 2005). I am standing backwards to the Nieuwe Kerk, the barrial place of the Dutch Royal Family.

Yes Oskar, Delft is a very wellknow city and Vermeer too :)) A big piece of european history :)) And your shot is very beautiful : the POV through this arch and this majestic place are making it a wonder :))

Het is en blijft een fantastisch mooi plein!! Je foto roept bij mij de herinnering op, dat ik met de Noorse vlag het plein moest overlopen met Taptoe Delft, een leuke afwisseling in mijn dientstijd, jaaaaaaaaaren geleden. De omlijsting met de boog geeft een extra dimensie aan de foto!!
