Description

I'm very conflicted about adding this image. It's a picture of my very dearest friend and her daughter,Lindsey, who passed shortly after this was taken. Lindsey had a horrible genetic disorder called Tay-sachs.It is a very rare disease these days because there is pre-natal screening for it.Unfortunately, technicians are human, and tests can be misread. Lindsey lived much longer than was anticipated, because of the tremendous effort of my very best friend, Debbie. Life expectancy for Tay-sachs is barely over a year. That's because many are institutionalised and left to starve because no means are taken.Lindsey 'lived' til she was five years old, because Debbie refused to 'put her away',(yes, there are others) and let her starve and die a slow miserable death.I was and am honored that Debbie let me photograph her and Lindsey. The effort on both their parts, for this shoot, was beyond anything I could describe. I post it because this photograph is a miracle...After I got my five or so shots, Lindsey clearly was in distress.I wanted to take more but it was out of the question. I finished the role with some nonsense and when I wound the film ...it ripped. And then, I did the most asinine thing ever.Without thinking, I opened the camera and exposed the film. So, this picture really shouldn't exist. But I think it was meant to survive. It's a testament to Lindsey and also ,I think,THE BIG GUY, up there, who wanted it to be.Thanks for looking.I hope I didn't depress anybody too much.I said I was conflicted because I didn't want that outcome .I really just wanted to share the miracle.Love you Linds.Love you Debbie.

Beautifully touching photograph. It can be so hard when the one you love is suffering and there is nothing you can do but hold them.

I caught your "last snow" image with the dogs..very nice. Then the notes got me here to this one. Pathos, empathy, connection in different but similar paths of life..all this is this wonderful and yet unpleasant image. Thanks very much for this image I need to see but can't view often. TomDart.

That baby was loved while she was here - HEY PEOPLE - NEWS FLASH! THE PICTURE THAT YOU ARE NOW VIEWING REPRESENTS THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IN ALL OF EXISTANCE! EVERYTHING ELSE IS INATELY POINTLESS AND MEANS EXACTLY ZERO!!! P.S. - This picture DOES have a title...it's "ALL THAT MATTERS"...

To call this a miracle is a bit of an understatement, I am stunned by your story! I feel very honored and touched to have viewed this. A touching memorial, and driven by fate. I knew a young man who was afflicted by Ataxia, and he knew his life would be short. I felt honored to know him, and I was immediately blown-away by his attitude toward life, for which he had been short-handed. He had an amazingly serene view of life. The clich"Live every day as if it were your last" was his M.O. I believe we are blessed to meet these wondrous spirits, as living reminders of the preciousness of our existence. And they serve to remind us that the clichis not really a clich Thank you for sharing this touching memorial.

A history behind every smile, a sorrow behind every brow, there's a story behind every piece of art and it is not just love and hope which make the colors. It is determination and the extra inch one would move to frame a shot like this and frame it with precision of truth. Truth, indeed is a very complicated subject to deal with simplicity. It is hardly acknowledged but you have.
