Description

When I was a boy, my parents took me to the beach several times a year. They would always point out west and ask if I could see China. I couldn't, but they were insistant and told me to look really hard. I never did see China, as a youth. But, there came a day when I had grown up and still haunted by disappointment, I decided to head west, until I could see what I was looking for. For several days, I traveled. Luckily, there were no storms, or large sea creatures. It was nearly a week when I saw something, miles off in the distance, perhaps a low land mass. Some said it was just a cloud bank, or fog, but I will always believe that I finally saw China.

Excellent work, especially the beach - is this using the same basis as your previous beach picture?

I love the text even more than the picture. Very nicely done. And the sea is incredible. I like the 19th century man on stilts reminds me of a Gorey picture, but I'm reading his bio, so that may be why. Very nice.

Awesome concept with a grand illustration...gosh one can look at this piece and hear many stories after reading yours! The splash on the rocks is a nice addition, and your wave, and wet sand wake work continues to grow I see...masterfully created and presented Dave! (=
