Description
(the story illustrates the picture, as does the picture illustrate the story. Reading is always optional.)
When we used to visit my Great Uncle Chester for a couple of weeks in summer, I remember how he loved telling incredible stories about his adventures. Chester talked about robots and gangsters and G-men better than any comic book I ever read. One regular character was Zelmo, the King of the Robots. He told about how he and Zelmo went around saving lives, fighting crime and doing good deeds. I knew they were just tales, but he told them so well.
There were times when I was in town that I heard bits and parts of an old story about robots and bank robbery, as if it were legend. I assumed they had heard Uncle Chester's tales and didn't think it unusual. Well, last year, Chester passed away and left me the farm. In his belongings, was an archive of newspaper stories about nearly 70 bank robberies and assorted burglaries in a three county area, from 1928 to 1939. Only a few witnesses ever saw anything and they were passed off as nuts. They said they saw a metal man leaving the scene of the crime.
From what I could gather from Chester's journals, there was a wealthy industrialist that was trying to drive several landowners out of the area and buying up entire towns. Among his investments, were several banks. Chester wrote of "Zelmo did a job in Billups last night", or "Zelmo returned with $34,300 this morning." There were also several ledger books detailing things like, "Harold Jenkins-given $1200", "The Baxter Family- given $3500." The industrialist was convicted of several swindling charges, so he really was a bad guy.
Chester and Zelmo had apparently played Robin Hood for years and considering Chester lack of personal wealth, he never kept any himself. I hadn't figured out who, or what Zelmo really was, until I cleaned the barn out. In a hidden room, I found him. Zelmo, The Great, The King of the Robots. He was guarding several trunks of loot and frozen in time trying to reach his recharging cord for the wall socket. When I helped him out, his eyes flickered and he sat up.

Great picture & great story. Just the teensiest little details, like maybe making robot footprints in the sand at his feet, and making the wood the slightest bit more worn looking would add to the realism more.
