Father choked on his breakfast--Instant Quaker Oats, apple and cinnamon flavour. He heacked and gurgled and spurt until an artificial hunk of apple was dislodged. He spat it out into his hands, looked it over, put it back in his mouth, chewed it with a fury. Sister knocked over her juice glass turning the newspaper page. The glass smashed, spreading yellow liquid and turquoise glass across the beige and brown greshly washed linoleum floor. The dog ran through the kitchen, got a piece of the turquoise glass in its paw. It yelped and whined and ran under mother's bed. Mother stayed in bed until noon, reading romance novels, drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, screaming at the dog to shut up.
