The rear gun bubble in the Grumman is quite unique. Fine work as always Geoff.

Nice work as always. One point of constructive criticism: the cowling on the TBM is almost square, not tapered as you have it. Almost anything with a radial engine will have that feature. I worked with TBM's a bit over a decade ago, when they were still in use as spray planes. Loved the roar of that engine!

I'm afraid Tamarrion is in error - every plan and photograph I have (a great many) of wartime Avengers shows the cowling as I have it.I assume that some modifications took place when they were civilianised !!

Tamarrion, could the spray plane you worked on have been the Consolidated TBY-2? It looks similar to the Grumman TBM-3 since it was designed at the same time by Chance Vought using the same Navy specs. They sold the design to Consolidated. It does have a more stubby nose. Geoff, excellent series you have going, they are well researched. Are you doing them for a book or poster?
