Description

Thought I should post a bird today ;-) Ohhh no, not another bird :-p Found this little 'beautie' today on a tree enjoying his 'spring food'. (would like to know why he is called 'bullfinch', in german he has the funny name 'dompfaff' ) (EOS350d, Sigma 170-500mm @500mm, f5.6, ISO400, mf) Thanks for your interest !

What a wonderful bully!! I think the name is derived from their fat, bull-necked appearance they were a common site a few years ago and many were killed due to the habit they have of eating apple tree blossum rather like the way they are doing in your image!! Fine work never worry about posting such great shots!!

No I was thinking great another bird photo. This is nice I don't see these around my area. Nice job on the eye it's hard to get any definition on a black crowned bird with a jet black eye. Randy

Ciao Chris. That's a wonderful shot, for a so beautiful and cut bird ! I can't explain me his name in english... In Italian also he's got a funny name : "il cuffolotto". Bullfinches inflict serious damage on orchards by feeding on the buds of fruit trees, and have been persecuted for that ! I've never seen him in South of France. He's got incredibles colours. Great photograph !
