Description

~*~Lady of Avalon~*~ Avalon In Celtic mythology, the island of the blessed or paradise; one of the names of the Welsh Otherworld. In the legend of King Arthur, it is the land of heroes, a fruitful land of youth and health ruled over by Morgan le Fay; Arthur is conveyed here to be healed of his wounds after his final battle with Mordred. It has been identified since the Middle Ages with Glastonbury in Somerset, southwest England. It is believed that it is here in Avalon that Arthur dwells, possibly carried in the sacred barque by his three sisters, or by sisters of Morgan, the fata morgana, or those from an Otherworldy realm. It is not clear whether Arthur is still thought to be alive, died but was reincarnated, or sleeping under the Tor (Glastonbury) but in all Arthurian legends, ancient and modern, it is in Avalon that he awaits the day when Britain requires his sword which will demand his return as the 'once and future king'. I think perhaps since my first viewing of the movie Camelot, through reading various books both fact and fiction on the Arthurian Legend, followed by much research into the mythos of Arthur. Hence the image above. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ background of the lady is a computer painting of a photograph taken in the Norther parts of Scotland, and nope can't remember where cause it was taken aeons ago. The lady was sketched, added some airbrush coloration via PSP 9 pencil brush then smudged, added to background and a softening filter added to give her a more ghostly feeling. For those ladies I do believe are still there, guarding Arthur for his return one day at need. :) Thank yous to all who viewed my doodlings and for leaving their lovely encouraging words. Amazing Pat. Probably one of your best. The story of King Arthur is so fascinating and this picture is excellent. You know when I looked at it I had this feeling that if you wanted to explain the legend of King Arthur to a child that this would be a great image for a childs book on the stubject. I love it Pat its beautifully done, has that look of done with pastels. Wonderful!! Hugs :)
