Description

Something a bit new, I had a chance to take some photos at an ice hockey match today, a friend of mine (second from the left in the white helmet) plays for Sheffield Steelers under 19s, so i went to watch. I've got to say, ice hockey is an amazing game to watch, but it's so fast, taking any good shots is almost impossible (for me, anyway!). If anyone's got any tips, i'd love to hear them, because i'm already dying for another go :-D

I've been playing for a long long time. Know the game. Only way to anticipate the action. Set up on the end boards. That way, the action stays in frame rather than passes you by. Follow one guy with your lens, eventually the puck will come to him. Look for other good hockey shots, try this site: http://www.detroitredwings.com/interactive/photoGallery.jsp above all, enjoy it.

Nice capture! I like the B&W, it gives it a timeless quality!

This is an amazing shot! So much movement in it. And clear and sharp. Bravo! May i give one tip: A stadion should be illuminated everywhere the same. So you don't have to change something at your cam. Take an aperture that ensures enough DOF, perhaps not below F 5.6. Take a light intense lens. I got a cheap 135mm 1:1,8 (!). Focus to a middle range, an average range. And at least you only have to follow the players and to take a shot without changing settings.

Hi guys, thx so much for the tips, i'll try em out and hopefully get some better shots next time! Just thinking about it, probably a lens that isn't as old as me and manual focus would be a good start...
