Description

Alright, don't laugh now. This is about as steady as I can be with that 300mm lens of mine. After meeting the Fockers, I saw a stream out back, a bit on the swampy side, but hey, there was water, and wildlife. 2 sweet Mallards floated nearby; I got a lot of shots of them... but further down this river, I spotted a Mother Goose, sitting upon her nest of precious babies, guarding with her life. I made my way down to the river bank, going through brush and trees, and I saw a huge smooth boulder built into the ground (just for me, I swear) and I sat on that rock and shot that bird. I zoomed in as far as I could ... keeping a steady hand is NOT EASY!!! What is the trick ??? ( I know... tripod) :-/ Hard to steady a 300mm lens with heart pounding as it was. LOL Hopefully as time goes on, there will be some improvement ... Here's hopin'. Cheers, ShariLyn

Im surprised you were able to hold onto a camera in the first place, after meeting the Fockers,LOL. I bet youre still giggling when you think of em. This is really a masterpiece Sharilyn. Dont know if you used digital zoom or not, cause that doesnt matter since the outcome is flawless regardless. Theres a feel to this one that reminds me of those old old nature paintings hanging on my grandfathers wall. This is purely magical!!!! And always remember...having only one testical sure is a blessing, lol ;o) Have a great one!!!!! Hugs!!!

This is most excellent - no improvement is needed - the detail and texture is wonderful and the subject isolation is superb! Magnificent! Good shutter squeeze :-)

ShariLyn... I can relate to your story about trying to hold a long zoom steady, especially in challenging light. I have more failures than successes when doing that. This is a precious scene. I'm a softie for animals and nature, and especially birds. Several years ago, I noticed a duck behind a bush a few feet from my front door, sitting on what proved to be a nest. Needless to say, over the next several weeks, we named her 'Daisy Duck' and we proceeded to get lots of photos when the 13 chicks hatched. I even got video of one of them coming out of the shell. It's tough because the mother is so protective. Your photo is delightful, and the title is appropriate. Cheers..... Tim

Heya Sharilyn, wonderful capture ! Thats great, you just started your wildlife-photography-career with your new cam/lens and you got this beautiful goose, well done ! I like your description how you made your way down, thats what I love while capturing animals, this feeling and thinking how to get as close as possible, where's best place to shoot from, to study how animals behave...

still want to see that movie... i imagine it would be difficult, a long zoom & only a hand to steady it... you did great!! *honk, honk! :]

Wonderful shot - especially considering your difficulties and new lens. Yep suppose it has to be a bean bag or tripod for most situations with that lens - yet this shot has turned out good :)

Such a beautiful creature, I have only ever seen them in a flocks 20 or more. Difficult to handle 300mm, but you managed it. Excellent!!!
