I've been interested in 3DCG for nearly decade now, but I have only just now begun to study it in ernest. Before I got in to Poser, Adobe and DAZ|Studio I was a CAD operator. With some time and patience I might even get good at this, especially with the wealth of talent here at Renderosity to observe and pester for tips.BIOI'm a former engineer and hobbist game designer whom fell into management and accounting due to the sluggish economy.

Well whatever U work on, this is nice. He looks very neat, and the clothing is just neat on him. His hand in the foreground feels like coming at U. Very nice.

Howdy, and welcome to the Poser obsession! You're doing well so far, this is a pretty good lighting setup. I'm no expert myself, but I can certainly share with you the things I've learned over the past couple of years. I recommend putting bump maps (albeit subtle ones) on almost everything, especially skin, lips and clothes. This really adds a lot of realism to a scene, and helps prevent that "plastic" look. Another simple tip for realism is depth of field. I usually fake depth of field in a paint program, so I have more control over it. Eg. in this pic, you could render your guy once without the hand, and then render just the hand as a separate image (save it as a TIF so that it includes an alpha map). Then load the two images into a paint program as two separate layers, and Gaussian blur the hand layer. You'll have to play around for a while to find the right amount of blur, but you should find the image looks less 2-dimensional, and the hand will appear to be reaching out at you...
