Description

Climate barriers can be fun in the Alps. With lots of clouds coming from the Mediterrannean See you might expect an overcast sky here, but... the Bernese mountains force them to lift up and pour down their precipitation on the southern slopes of the mountains and once crossing the tops they fall down, get warmer and dissolve in thin air. The effect is a warm wind, the so-called Föhn (Chinook in the USA, Sirocco in Africa, etc.) that can melt lots of snow in just a short time. Here you can see the Jungfrau covered with clouds, streaming from the south over the top and dissolving on this side of the mountain, causing warm sunny weather on this side.
