Description
I captured this Florida Alligator this past weekend when boating up and down some canals in Lake Placid, FL, just off Lake June. There are a lot of still natural areas, and of course, lots of wildlife. We coasted the boat pretty close and I was able to get this photo. He stirred a little, but I guess he was so cozy in the late morning sun that he decided not to flee back in the water.
I would say he was about 6-7 feet in length. An Everglades tour guide once told me that you can tell a gator's size by how many inches there are between the bulb on the end of it's snout and its eyes. This one looked to have about 7 inches, thus he was about 7 feet long.
I did a little postwork to bring back some blown highlights, fix the levels and staturation, and give parts of the image a slight fuzzy glow. Otherwise, this is the complete, uncropped image.

I don't think I would bother going close enough to measure bulbs on snouts and eyes, above 3 feet (1m) its just 'BIG' with sharp teeth! Excellent picture!
