Good luck to him. He's very far from home.

Is this a carving from wood? Did you make it? I need you to explain this to me. I love when you educate me :) lol.

I've to admit that this is a bit cryptic. In the Catholic Encyclopedia I found a reference to St. Pascal Baylon noted for his charity to the poor and afflicted, and his unfailing courtesy. But, then I had to admit to a bit of subconscious error in that I accepted the title in an all too literal manner. Perhaps the reference is to the initiate's first tier of the Ziggurat of Babylon as he/she comes to realize, as in the case of the Bodhisattvas at the beginning of their paths, the error of worldly Western ways. The totem is indeed sepic and, perhaps, has been displaced from NYC to Babylon. I once had a girlfriend whose home was on Fire Island and noticed the phone bill always referenced Babylon, NY as the exchange. :-) In any case this is an interesting image and perhaps if I continue playing with my limited grey matter, I'll eventually come to some valid realization. Thanks for posting this -- It's causing my squeaky mental wheels to force a turn or two. :-)

I do tend to quote obscure references and make subjective connections, but then, making a fractal and calling it a rose is no less a leap of imagination. I hope you enjoy the image. "Second Isaiah Ch 40 56 is for the exiled Jews in Babylon. The prophet wrote for a displaced people who were a pilgrim people. Some felt their God had deserted them and that the Gods of Babylon had proved more powerful... Many were doubtless weary of captivity and even if some had come to terms with their new environment, many wept when they remembered Zion." I think that a Sepic spiritual totem living in a NYC apartment must feel somewhat abandoned by it's gods. Of course the matter of it's feelings are a separate issue... *Quote:http://www.kippax.org.au

Interesting reference. I do get a feeling of something being out of place. I like the image and the context.

I've seen Sepic carving and it's striking even without dramatic lighting, but the lighting does create tension. I agree, this was not meant to be indoors...

It's amazing just how much history and genealogy there is in the Bible...got the Babylon connection right away...I suppose Bylon would have thrown me off the path as well
