Description

" Slowly, amidst the distorted horrors of the indescribable scene, she began to chum the lethal waters; whilst on the masonry of that charnel shore that was not of earth the titan Thing from the stars slavered and gibbered like Polypheme cursing the fleeing ship of Odysseus.

Then, bolder than the storied Cyclops, great Cthulhu slid greasily into the water and began to pursue with vast wave-raising strokes of cosmic potency." The Call of Cthulhu - H.P.Lovecraft One of my favorite authors, the recluse of Providence, master of the deepest cosmic horrors. I tried to apply some of the enhanced shaders of Vue Infinite to recreate the non-euclidian geometry of Cthulhu's island as described by Lovecraft. The atmosphere surrounding Cthulhu is filled with a material that has a variable index of refraction. The skin of Cthulhu and surrounding tentacles is enhanced by an 'angle of incidence' shader to give them an oily texture. The tormented waters are a combination of the new 'open ocean' node, a filtered 'angle of incidence' for the foamy crests of waves and a 'distance to object below' effect to create a shoreline. I had to use pieces of photographs to improve the tentacles and a couple of the waves. And other than a few touches with Painter to smooth out some rough edges, this is 90% Vue Infinite.
