Description

It's a great joy to see the forest-soil covered with leaves starts withs outbursts of life in spring! This bittercress (Cardamine Pentaphyllos) blooms here and there, joyfully coloring parts of the forest. It's family of the well-known cuckoo flower (Cardamine pratensis) that colors meadows with pink or whitish flowers. The Cardamine-family has many members, and pentaphyllos means it has five leaflets. It's funny to look it up in my botanical guide, there is (among many other species) C. trifolia (3 leaflets), C. pentaphyllos, C. heptaphylla (7 leaflets) and C. enneaphylla (9 leaflets)! Well, up to here our daily lesson of Latin LOL! :) Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 70 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

An excellent photograph, wild flowers look so much better represented in their natural settings. We do not have this one in Britain. But it's couisin pratensis is common here in the damper meadows of the Cotswolds where it also enjoys the local name of Milkmaids. An old fancy perhaps that it's colour is like the cheeks of those young ladies. George Clarke

Excellent capture, brings to life the magical growing carpet we walk on in these lush forests; I can conjure up the sounds as we tread on fallen twigs and branches! Great hike!
