I was walking through the woods and came upon a nice family of ferns unfolding. It was a very pleasent sight, I love all the swirls and shapes they have. enjoy please...

I've heard of what Tedz said about a delicacy, I think in Korean food they use them in soup?? Excellent image Akemi, what a great discovery!!! I can just imagine you out there gathering them up to try with some stir fry or something, LOL A beautiful image!!!!! V

This is a great example of fractal mathematics in nature. Ferns unfold with the same series of shapes you see in many of the julia-mandlebrot fractal images here-- I find that fascinating. Very nice composition in your photo.

Beautiful macro of this young fern tree. In the Japanese recipe, the young tender fern shoots are called Kakuma. It is picked very young, clean and then boiled for some time till tender. The outer skin is removed and the fern is cut into strip or cubes. You can make soup or mixed stir fries. Aloha
