Description
The US Coast Guard was doing rescue drills 10 mi. offshore today.
This scene was barely visible with the naked eye.
The picture was taken with the Nikon coolpix 8800, handheld with vibration reduction system turned on and zoomed out to 350 mm.

10 miles?!?!? Wow!! Surprised you can even keep your subject in view long enough to snap the pic if you're doing this handheld. Great job!! Steady hand!!

I have to admit, the camera does most of the work. When I bought the camera, I thought that the vibration reduction system was mostly a gimmick. (Boy, was I wrong). click on the link above if you are interested to see how it works.
