Description

Lately there has been a large number of Toads around my house with the on coming warmth. I wanted to skin a model with these fine-skinned creatures and was reminded of a toad-like creature I saw in the marketplace. When I first did some texturing I kept running into the texture distortion problem. So I decided on another approach since I am not too great at modeling or painting models. First I found a backgound image and took only the greens from the photo, blurred, then switched the layer beneath to black to create a subtle foresty back drop. Then using a texturing techique called front projection modeling I rendered a raw model image and textured in photoshop then projected back to the model. Which went something like this. It gave me a lot of control that I never thought I had. Although it was quite time consuming and I can only render this in this angle alone, I still finally had a great deal of control where everything fell on the 3d model. So basically, I didn't have to do the lighting and fine tuning in a 2d editing program. No Toad was harmed in the making of this picture. Poser, Photoshop, Cinema 4d Enjoy Chris

What a strange and scary creature u've created here!! Thx for all those links, it was really fascinating to see the process! There's only one thing that concerns me, it's the toad: I hope u didn't hurt him/her!?

A great product for creating textures is Deep Paint 3D by Right Hemisphere. You can do all sorts of cool tex painting right onto the model. Another option is ZBrush.
