There's nothing wrong with darkness :-). Good crystalline/metallic feel, and beautiful colours. I like the dark shadow on the bottom right too.

Gorgeous textures and colours as well as design and mood. There is an optical illusion to it as well; either there's a hole, or there's another orb on top to the left! Excellent piece of work!
