Description

Fungal growth - If you think this is as bad as it gets you should see the thousands I threw away! I had no idea when I took this photograph and did a little research on the Internet. A request led to this reply (condensed): - "The photograph shows that the trawler is berthed on the fitting-out quay, as evidenced by the mobile crane track in the bottom right-hand corner of the picture which suggests that she is having a minor re-fit between trips to sea. On the other hand, it could also be that she is having her 're-usable parts' removed prior to scrapping. Which raises another small point: the photo must be prior to 1979 as the Coldstreamer was scrapped in 1976 as indeed were many others of her type as the fishing grounds closed and running costs of the vessels signalled the end of the fishing industry. The Coldstreamer was one of six basically similar ships all built by Rickmers Werft, Bremerhaven in 1955 and 1956. Coldstreamer GY.10 built 1955 by Rickmers Werft, Bremerhaven, Germany. Yard No: 273. Launched on 21st May 1955 and Completed 1955. Registered on July 1955. Gross Tons: 697. Nett Tons: 238. Length: 183.7 feet. Breadth: 31.5 feet. Depth: 17.1 feet. Forecastle: 38 feet. Official Number: 184929. Original owners: Standard Steam Fishing Co Ltd, Grimsby. January 1966 Sold to Northern Trawlers, Grimsby. Later amalgamated with the Ross Group to form British United Trawlers. Fate: Scrapped in November 1976." I intend to clean this image up, but for the moment I am so busy so it will have to wait. Thanks once again for your interest. Best wishes my friends, Dave P.S. To those dear friends who write to me. Please give me time to catch up and I will be with you as soon as I can. To those who were going to write until they read this. Please continue, I love to hear from you honestly I do :)

Somehow you get the feeling that an older photo has a more interesting story to tell than more recent ones. That is quite fascinating when you think about it. I dont know if you should fix em up at all....maybe youll lose alot of their charm if you do. Have a great day buddy #:O)

Shame about the fungus - at least you have a more permanant(?) version of it now. It's surprising how quickly older colour slides fade and deteriorate!

This is really quite excellent! As an ex-sailor I love to see these images - sorry about the fungus - have some 4 x 5's suffering the same fate. Well done!

You know. That fungus pattern reminds me of the 'elephant skin' texture filter I use. Maybe I'm nuts, but I think it adds to the photo. Great photo.

Fungal growth? You should have said it was artistic postwork. Love the trawler... full of character and wonderfully illustrates a rugged and so honorable profession.
