Description
Regensburg (in English it is known as Ratisbon) is a city in Bavaria, south-east Germany, located at the confluence of the Danube and Regen rivers. The first settlements in Regensburg date to the stone ages. 500 B.C. - the Celtic settlement of Radasbona. Around 90 A.D. the Romans built a small "cohort-fort". In 179 the Roman fort Castra Regina ("fortress by the river Regen") was built for the Third Italic Legion during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius. It was an important camp on what was then the northern fringe of the empire.
The St. Peters Cathedral is a very interesting example of pure German Gothic. It was founded in 1275 and completed in 1634, with the exception of the towers, which were finished in 1869. The Old Stone Bridge cross the Danube and is over 850 years old. Built during 1135 to 1146 it was the greatest stone bridge in the world and was praised as the "eighth wonder of the world". To the left of the towered gateway guarding the bridgehead is the 17th-century salt store.

There is something very magical about the POV, lighting, and compo of this image. The mist...the sunlight, the river and old structures...all add up to one powerful image. Gotta give it a V (man I miss my old cam) :] Thanks for the history too.
