Description

This is a picture of my father when he enlisted on the back it is written, Alf, when he went in the Army in 1917. My goodness. He certainly does look like a child in this photo, I don't know really how old he was at this time. As I myself am 80 years old, everyone looks like a kid to me now :-) I did not know my father very well when I was young, as any oldster will tell you, I believe, that at that time, the fathers were busy making a living and did not have time to socialize with their children as the parents of childrern today do

The photo itself seems to be in rather good shape for its age. His expresssion seems to be youthful focus and diligence. Hard to believe that war was almost 100 years ago now. Thanks for sharing it.

Woofee - I want to thank you for allowing us to share with you in the discoveries you are making through these photos. This is delightful, and I find your sharing these to be amazing and touching. Your father cuts a fine figure in that uniform, and his face has the look of many I've seen in uniform - a look of patriotism. My grandfather served the USA in both wars (so I'm told) and had the same look in his eyes for as long as I knew him. I never did get to see any photos of him from WWI, and so these photos of yours are a real treat. I look forward to seeing what you share and I'm glad you grace us with these. Blessings to you, Shawn.

Thank you for sharing. (You may have noticed I posted an image of my wife's grandfather with his machine-gun company and some trophies. The looks in the eyes in these old photos tells more, sometimes, than the overall image. Thanks again. Sadly, my crew never kept old pictures.)

I have a similar photo on my wall of my Grandfather when he was in the Navy in the early 1900's. They are such treasures to be cherished. Wonderful to see.
