Usually punctual and rarely belated, I truly had to scramble in my spare time the past two weeks to get this image done! This image is dedicated to the one and only Melissa whose birthday was celebrated by many in such a unique and fun way with her Birthday Bash Contest! I truly hope you had a fantastic birthday month, and you helped inspire so many of us here with your beautiful poem which kept some of us busy with thoughts and creative ideas! The words and concept of the poem were very strong and passionate, and I must say that I could relate to it immensely. I wanted to say thank you very much for all you have offered the community, as well as the fantastic sponsors in this contest, and I can't think of a better way to celebrate your special day! La mult ani, Melissa!

In my mind, I translated Melissa's poem into my personal experiences and decided to depict a man very distant from his only love whose every thought revolves around her being in his heart. Sometimes love and passion can be bittersweet, but we keep in our minds the intensity which drew us into the relationship in the first place. I didn't want to portray sadness and sorrow in this image; the aspect of tragedy seemed a bit melancholy and morose for a birthday image to me, although the words are very emotionally intense. His vision of her in a beautiful place and the hopes and dreams which keep him striving daily to persevere and overcome the trials of life seemed to be the epitome and embodiment of passion in my mind; hopefully I achieved that depiction accurately in this piece. After all, it's always better to focus on the positive aspects of life versus dwelling on the negative. Again, Happy Birthday Melissa and thank you very much for the inspiration!

Dear David, Holy Cats!! This is really awesome! I can't imagine how long it must have taken to get everything exactly right! Your gal is absolutely gorgeous and her outfit is pure fantasy - love the cape!! The front and back lighting on her with the light rays streaming from behind her is truly amazing - and really does serve so well to establish her as something a little beyond reality! When love is in full bloom, our beloveds do seem to transcend normal people! The lighting on the torches and candles is perfect also. The pavilion with the craggy mountains in the distance, framed by the trees and blue swirling sky really provides a powerful set and further enforces the perfection of the moment. And the overlying picture of her distant love shows that the other is never far from their hearts and thoughts. A very beautiful and touching interpretation of the poem and a sentiment that all of us can well understand! Very excellent work as always on such a masterpiece!!! Love, Meredith
