Description

An American GI is left behind in the wake of the German winter offensive in the Arddennes December 1944. A larger, slightly darker version of my entry for this months challenge. Daz for GI, German soldier and dog, ruined buildings in the background are from zippy and baument, tables are from freestuff, I have lost author credit for the KonigsTiger, GI uniform is from lynnjohnathan, german uniform from corearts, the foreground wall and the floor were made by myself in 3D Studio. Scene is lit with a radial light semi-dome. Postwork in PS7. Thanks for your attention.

The lighting and textures are perfect. Fantastic uniforms and the small stones on the floor are great. Amazing detailed artwork! V

Wonderful detail in the modeling. If I were him I would be stuffing myself down that hole!

Good job on the modelling. Such irregular shapes are hard to model successfully. For the rest, a bit more lighting and coloristic contrast between the interior and exterior would make it better. Still, it's good.

Oh my god I feel it's fear. the debris and the details in the room are perfect. I'd add a bit of bump to the wall, but the rest is really good.

looks real good so far.Nice hole in the wall and floor. May want to add some brown dust on the interior to sell the hole a bit more. The colors seem a bit flat, some contrast like erik said would realy jaz this up a notch or 2. all in all an outstanding setup.

Despite your protestations to the contrary; I think this render definitely deserves a vote. Great details, textures, lighting, and yes, modeling!

well the textures and the 'scenery' are top-notch. i think the GI's could use a bit more wear and tare, and the brick wall in the background some AA'ing, but it certainly rocks! I'll give this an excellent regardless :)

Agree with all of the above, my only comment would be that the lighting is a little too even. Maybe some light coming in through the hole in the wall would add greater depth. But, what do I know.

Excellent work Tom. Not much for me to say that hasn't been said, besides this ranks up there as one of you best yet. Great historical theme. v

For the first time modeling job, it realy looks superb, mapping of the objects in your scene is quite excellent :) Maybe in render itself there is bit more ambience then it should be. Overall very good composition, and very intense feeling/mood, i like it a lot, looking forward to see more ! :D

Tell you what would have been a nice touch, to use the snowfall prop available from the RuntimeDNA site. Othewise, I'm delighted to be a part of this picture. I agree with bandolin that it would have been VERY worthwhile experimenting more with the lighting...from Bryce one would have expected much more. Have another go, it's really worth it!

This is great! I think it's great how you are getting so much feedback (guess it's because you mentioned it's for the challenge =). Here's another suggestion if you haven't submitted it yet: how about some streaming light rays coming through the hole? Just a subtle thing, but really can enhance the whole scene! Just a thought this is certainly quite excellent!
