Description
Our April rain and snow showers have been going steady for the past week and are running over into May! I took this shot on the grounds of the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs before the rain began.
These flowers remind me of celebrating May Day as a child. I would make a little paper basket and fill it with flowers from the garden. Then I would head down to Martha's house, a dear friend of my grandmother (and mine!), whose birthday was May 1. Hanging the basket on the doorknob, I would ring the doorbell and run away! I always think of Martha on May 1.
May Day is one of the oldest holidays around the world. Experts say many ancient peoples chose May first to celebrate the re-birth of nature in springtime. The Romans held a festival of flowers on the first day of May, and their celebrations became tradition in Britain, Ireland and Scotland. May Day celebrated the beauty of spring after a long, cold winter.

May is a joyful month (although not that celebrated in warm area's like Africa and down under of course), and love to see all those flowers popping out of the ground, exuberantly proclaiming the return of life!
