Description

Hi again! Well I've returned from Florida and I see I am way behind in viewing all of your pix.I will get to them all, I promise, it just may take a while. When i first got to Fla. I looked everywhere for something to photograph and found nothing ,except that bouganvillea I uploaded. I was very discouraged! As CDBrugg mentioned, it was very RED and I felt it a bit gaudy. So I thank you for all your positive comments about it.It bouyed my confidence. Anyway, the very next day I started to see shots everywhere!Isn't it amazing you can walk by the same thing over and over and then suddenly you're inspired? That's what happened with this pic. I passed this cactus over and over without noticing it. And then that day I thought ,"ooh ,that's kind of cool looking." So here it is. I had to take out some extraneous stuff from the background,(like a sweet'n low wrapper LOL) but otherwise only used curves and levels.I have no idea what kind of cactus it is. If any of you know,(Diomedes?) I'd love to hear from you. Hope you like it!!!!!!!!!-Marlene P.S.-I copied Andreas' framing style.I don't think he'll mind. I did a rather poor job of it!

Great point about noticing things... I see so much on RR I don't think I ever would have noticed... and this is a great catch, elegant in its simplicity.

I just finished reading comments from others including yourself at one of my images and I wanted to refresh my memory of you and your gallery when this photograph captured more than just my attention. This photograph has qualities that cannot be duplicated 30 minutes later, as light conditions would have presented such a different rendition. Edward Weston in the early 30's was experimenting with the same plant, the aloe cactus but going for more an abstract geometrical shapes in B&W. Your rendition has tones and shades of blue and blue-green that would all be lost in a conversion to greyscale. The plants own dance and interaction of the individual branches with each other develop movement for the eye to travel endlessly about and not wanting to leave. The only thing I would change is tone of the shadow to help separate the background from the image by going lighter on the shadow. Have a great weekend and be safe.
