I looked at all the flies on the Bug Guide site but couldn't find one like this.
If you know, let me know so I can change the title of this shot. :)
Update - thanks for the info Enmos!

Id say that is no other than Frank the Fly. Gorgeous macro, never seen anything like this before either. And that woodtexture makes this into such a classy and elegant compo. Well done indeed!!!!! Have yourself a great week #:O)

No idea, but gee it's a beauty of a fly.. Red eyes??? Could be a TV watching fly. Iridescent wings?? could be a bubble fly... black & white body??? could be a chess fly?
sossy
what a fantastic detailed macro! love the movement of the wings! a perfect capture in all aspects! ;o)
pauljs75
If it bites you and those bites hurt like hell, it might be a type of deer fly.

Hmmm, in French, we call this a "crap" fly! I'm serious, this is no joke! Because she eats crap! You know what crap is? Of course you know... ;-)

Awesome macro work here mate !! This one is unknown to me as well, will do my best to look it up for ya :o) Any size indication, habitat, etc ? ----- update: I think i found it :o) Its probably Anthomyia pluvialis, here are some links to pictures of it: http://www.anothersite.de/html/fliegen___co_14.html http://www.alrfoto.com/gal89/gale02.htm http://www.fkohl.de/foto.php?lang=de&foto=01.08.04-02-33 Found no info on it though, but i have seen reference to it as a flower dwelling fly also one reference of it being a 'beanfly'. Hope this is of any help :o)

Very nice work. I especially like the way the rainbow colors on back of wing blurred. Just a nice variety with this depth of field. KP

Hahah, addiek, you are too funny. What a cool find...guess he's his own fly...a real rebel! :) It figures that Enmos would be the one to find it. Good detective work for this great image!
