Description
This is a picture of a skimmer feeding, it is very unusual to be able to get a shot like this. The skimmer, usually only feeds in the early morning or evening, when the water is very calm. The skimmer has a lower bill that extends out past the upper bill. This enables him to skim the water as you can see in the photo and scoop up small micro organisms to feed. When the skimmer is not feeding. He stays in the company of his fellow skimmers on the beach, the unusual thing is, they all face the same direction. The skimmer is a common bird in the northern golf of Mexico. As he both winters and summers on the coast.
