BIO
Short Bio: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling was born in 1968. After graduating with a diploma degree in graphic design 1991 he worked as a illustrator and graphic designer further on. His first works were countless covers for videos, books, ... and many technical and architectural illustrations for advertising agencies. An important step in his further development followed in 2000 where he started to develop his "Fantasy Artwork" more seriously and did his first attempts creating his art on a computer. Since 2003 almost all of his work is painted digitally for clients all over the world mainly in the Fantasy Art genre. Uwe lives and works in a little village in the south of Germany. Tools used: Fantasy Artist Uwe Jarling is a traditional artist using traditional media like oils, watercolors and mainly gouache, but the last years he did the step into creating his art digital. The last 3 years 98% of his images are created using digital tools. Uwe experimented with several digital tools 3d as well as 2d. For 3d he experimented with 3d max, Poser, Vue, Bryce and more nice 3d applications, but as it doesnt fit him too well he decided to work mainly using 2d digital tools. For his 2d digital images Uwe uses mainly the software Painter, currently version 9, so most of his paintings are now done with Painter. For color corrections of his images or several effects Uwe uses Photoshop. All his latest images are done using Painter 9 and some Painter 9 and Photoshop CS in combination. Uwe currently paints on a Macintosh G5 using a pressure sensitive Wacom tablet.
Uwe was voted for Januarys 2006 Renderosity Artist of the Month. Read the AOM interview here:

WOOOW! Uwe, this has got to be one of my favorite pieces that you have done--it is quite simple but so well done and powerful--I must vote, and respect to you too!

Superior artwork with very much attention to details. There must be an Uwe in the Mystical Empire, who left an logo on the bow ;-)) ~Uwe

Outstanding painting! Fantastic detail and an excellent image!!!

First of all, fantastic detail, I really love the bow. The perspective is a bit off on the arrow though as well as the arrow head being a bit crooked and because it's in the foreground it's quite prominant. hope that helps, cheers.

First let me tell you all that I always feel very flattered about all your wonderful comments you are wonderful thanks you so much!! I appreciate critique as well as all the praise, so a big thank you to Lechsh (and to Mooow, who told me the same via private message) Yes you are right, the perspective is off, I realized that too but sadly hadnt time to correct it (those card art pieces have to be done mostly very quick). This is what happens if you dont construct perspective with perspective lines or dont use proper reference :-( I just did a quick sketch as mostly whithout having any reference, it was approved, and I started to paint without refining the sketch and taking care about perspective :-O well thats the result :-( --- btw, you can have a look at the sketch here - http://www.jarling-arts.com/coppermine/displayimage.php?pid=295&fullsize=1 - So again thanks for critique, no matter if it is per e-mail, private message or as a comment I got a lot of it since I post my work online and it is always very, very helpful so dont hesitate to give me some critique, at least thats what makes an artist grow. Oh, and Keith my friend, well I use Painter cause it just feels more like real painting than Photoshop. I think Photoshop was never meant to be a painting program. So I use Painter for painting Photoshop for picture editing. But thats just my opinion ;-) I know many artists using Photoshop and do mind-blowing art (J.P. Targete for example uses Photoshop 3 and is able to create artworks that just blow you away). So I thinks its all up to you and what you prefer the most and feel most comfortable with theres no better or worse, at least the artist is the one who creates the picture not the program, brush or whatever. Just use what fits you the best ;-) So again thank you all for all your support YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!

Wow - what a fantastic artwork. I would never have noticed the perspective of the bow and arrow because of the power of your character. You are the best and your work is always thrilling and inspiring. Vote. :o) CC

Yes, the arrow head is a bit wonky but the detailing more than makes up for it... I like the way you sneak your name onto the bow!
titta
Impressive composition with the diagonal of the bow, and the hand and the face to balance it. The light is beautiful as always. And like others, I love the details on the bow and arrow. Beautiful! :-)
kronossh13
Great image, as always. I specially like the texture of the bow. Excellent! :)

That face just floors me. I love the way that I can't tell the gender. The lines and character are wonderfully expressive. I wouldn't have noticed if I had not read the other comments, but I am not much good at critique as I don't have the talent it takes to spot flaws.
