Description

Alone In the Middle of the Road in pain waiting. Once I was Wild & Free A mate, and family A Snug Nest. Their food for them I pursued Till I Met an end so rude A Fast Car. Now I sit in pain no one is to blame I can't move. Who will feed my young? How will my mate survive? All I've lived for is over. Now I sit in pain no one is to blame I can't move. Alone In the middle of the road waiting. --Ode to a Cardinal ---- Today on the way to work, I saw a male cardinal sitting in the highway. He didn't move when I passed. (Being a corporate slave at the moment, I couldn't take the time to try to help...)

Ouch! Being a fanatic 'redbird' fan (baseball and birds) I echo Wolfspirit above. What corporation do you work for that would give you grief for being late for helping? I loved to hire people that would stop. Showed me real character and someone I could trust and depend upon in my business work.

This is indeed sad. Poor thing. A girl I worked with once found baby squirrels in a nest by our office. The mom was in the driveway, gone. She brought the babies into the office, went online found info on how to care for them, and took care of them until they were strong enough. Later on she took them to an animal/nature center of sorts. It's evident that you care. to most people this doesn't even register on their radar.

Many of us could be that cardinal at any point in our lives. It's a tough world, even for the creatures of the earth.

I work for an attorney (!!! Great Evil!!!) who is very uptight if I'm not at the office on time to catch the phone. I did have five minutes to spare, but the last time I captured an injured bird was quite an experience...Can you imagine trying to catch a bird that WOULD try to fly if it were touched...on the highway? Sad, but I value my life, too... EverythingNess :), if you read my bio, remember the line about the deer? :) It is awesome--literally--to me that there are people who care enough about the Wee Folk to help when they can. Central Texas is where people teach their kids to raise cows, goats, sheep; become friends with them; and then sell their friends to be slaughtered: "That's life, kiddo. Get used to it." That's 4-H, and the FFA: Fine American institutions! I don't believe it has to be like that. The bush administration would have me jailed for talking like this! :)

Ouch! This isn't something you wanna see every day. But then again, rest assured, thousands of animals are hit my cars every day. Ew, not very pain relieving is it? Anyway, good work, no doubt about that!

Me again still slaying e-bots!! I am so far behind on gallery visits that I can never realistic catch up on the backlog if I continue to write my typical comments. The rational thing to do would be to delete everything and start over thats what everyone has been telling me to do. Instead, Im going to spend my time looking and enjoying and just leave this calling card behind until I can get current. Once I catch up, I can get back to my typical fare. Love, Meredith PS - Very touching - very moving!!!

It is a sad fact that wildlife dies at the hands of progress. Poor birdy.... Wonderful piece babes, you wrote a birds eye view well.

makes my eyes fill with tears. i like it when writers write from the perspective of the animal. One of my favorite authors is Richard Adams who wrote Watership Down and Plague Dogs, just to name a couple. Anyway, your writing was filled with emotions, and gives me very vivid visual imagry. Excellent piece of work! :)
