Description

This was such a great spot, and the photo turned out dismally. I had to do way more work with it in photoshop than I like, but it was worth it. A morada is a Penitente church - found only in Northern New Mexico - it is an old Spanish Catholic sect from hundreds of years ago which practices self-flagellation and crucifixions on Easter (hey, no nails nowadays.)

Actually, i melded three images together here, and the shot of the morada really was from a different angle than the ones i used for the sky. i had double sets of crosses - too dark moradas, too light skies. I really have hours of work in this one. Saturating colors etc. It was a late in the day shot, in a place where locals REALLY DO NOT WANT you, especially taking pictures of a morada - so it was a - shoot and run - watch over your shoulder situation. I was there with a friend who lives maybe a mile down the road - he has lived there for probably 15 years - and I tell you - he was in a even bigger rush to get out of there.
