Description

The 1946 tsunami, generated in the Aleutians, produced 30 foot (10 m) waves at Laupahoehoe. The waves completely overran the peninsula. Statewide, 159 people were killed, 21 of them at Laupahoehoe. Today a beautiful park is located in this area, and the calmness shown in this image can quickly turn to disaster in minutes. Thank goodness for our early warning Tsunami buoys located miles off shore. Many thanks for your comments on my previous posts and have a great week everyone! Aloha~

So hard to believe such a disaster happened here - it looks so peaceful now! This is the type of scene that makes me wish I could go back for another visit soon :)

Incredible how beautiful nature can turn into a devastating monster suddenly! Makes me think of the canyoning youngsters killed in a thunderstorm of which I once posted the valley with beautiful orchids :S Excellent work, this looks really so beautiful!
