Description
SIGNIFICANCE OF THIS TYPE OF AIRPLANE:
EVOLVED FROM BUCKER'S SUCCESSFUL FIRST AIRCRAFT, THE 2 SEAT BU-131 LIGHT TRAINER,GERMAN PRE-WWII PROPAGANDA IDENTIFIED THE "JUNGMEISTER"("YOUNG CHAMPIONS")
AS A SINGLE SEAT CIVILIAN SPORT PLANE. ITS TRUE ROLE, HOWEVER,WAS TO CLANDESTINELY TRAIN FIGHTER PILOTS FOR HITLER'S LUFTWAFFE.BECAUSE IT EXCELLED IN AEROBATIC MANEUVERABILITY, IT PROVED AN EXCELLENT MOUNT FOR GERMANY'S NEW FIGHTER PILOTS TO BEGIN TO LEARN THE TOOL OF THEIR TRADE
.
CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS AIRCRAFT
SPAN:21 FEET 7 INCHES LENGTH: 19 FEET 8 INCHES HEIGHT: 7 FEET 2 INCHES
WEIGHT: 1290LBS. SPEED: 145MPH CRUISE
HISTORY OF THIS AIRCRAFT:
THIS REPLICA WAS BUILT BY BRANIFF CAPTAIN KEN LARSON USING DRAWINGS BY FRANK PRICE AND EXPERT ADVICE FROM JIM SWICK OVER A TWO YEAR PERIOD FROM MARCH, 1970 TO MARCH,1972
MR LARSON WON AT LEAST 41 FIRST PLACE CHAMPIONSHIPS DURING 1973 THROUGH 1999. HE WAS A PILOT WITH BRANIFF FOR 35 YEARS, BEGINNING WITH THE DC-3 AND ENDING IN THE BOEING 747.HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST BRANIFF CAPTAINS TO FLY THE AEROSPATIALE CONCORDE SUPERSONIC TRANSPORT.
IT WAS MY PLEASURE TO MEET SUCH A DISTINGUISHED PILOT THAT ALSO FLEW B-17s DURING WORLD WAR II IN EUROPE. HE GAVE ME A TOUR OF THE MUSEUM THAT I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND CHERISH HAVING BEEN IN HIS COMPANY
PS: THE PLANE WAS FLOWN BY MR LARSON ONLY A YEAR AGO WHEN HE DELIVERED IT TO THE FRONTIER OF FLIGHT MUSEUM AT DALLAS LOVE FIELD, DALLAS,TX

Great photo and what a wonderful experience for you too. Cherish any and all opportunities to learn about the past from "living history books". Fascinating to think of all the advances in aviation that Capt.Larson witnessed first hand.
