Description
This is the first of a series that I took at Manteno State Hospital. It is also my very first shoot using a model so feel free to critique my work, always, as it does help.
This photo was taken in a hydrotherapy room. When the place closed down they left everything, including patient's files and records. The writtings on these walls are done by some unknown person but I do know that they copied them from a patient named Gennie's files. The writtings tell the sad tale of the woman that was commited by her parents for depression. The walls tell about her "insulin coma treatments" her "relationships with peers and family" and her "labotomy". The writtings are not meant to be the focus of the compostion. They just help me, the photographer, emphasize on the story telling and set the mood and feel of the place.
The model is Nicole Birmingham http://modelmayhem.com/member.php?id=149
Thanks for looking!

This is amazing... the story behind it.. the picture... and the mood is amazing... very haunting :D I love it!! But who would take the time to write all that??? I think maybe THEY needed to be in that hospital :D I would understand if it was done for a photoshoot... but just because... hmmmm :D Anywayz, great picture!!!!!!!!!

WOW!!! This is a powerful image....especially considering the story behind it. If you are interested in this type of thing I can recommend two excellent short stories; Edgar Allan Poe's "The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether" and Charlotte Perkins Gilmans "The Yellow Wallpaper." - Matt

I know this is besides the point, but today I removed an image from a series I have been doing 'Family Secerets'. The image did not fit the seriousness of the sunject, but the reason for this whole story here is that the image was called 'If Walls Could Talk'. Kind of interesting is it not. Two artist with the same idea but expressing it differently. Anyway, I am glad you are posting more on this place. You mentioned that they left mediacal records behind. Somewhat surprising but i think that having any of them would prove to be a wealth of reasearch material for his series yoour doing, if not for a novelist. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for sharing the story with us as well as the wonderful photo. I love the setting, and for it you have chosen a perfect model (alabaster skin, and red red hair) and have put her in the perfect pose and the perfect clothes. Really great work. I just voted for somebody else's photo, but I gotta VOTE for this one as well - it's just perfect!! Great job!
