Description

I never do this but... Instead of just stating "Created w/ XenoDream", I leave a little blurb too: This is one of those creations that really caused me to reminisce... I fell in love with the piano at the age of 5 (26 yrs ago). My parents, being the awesome people they are, went out and found a piano for me to learn on, a 1901 Cable. A few keys were broken, but I played it every day anyways. Later, my dad had a piano tuner/repair man visit our home to fix the broken keys and tune her up. My dad watched intently as the tuner pulled the entire action out of the piano to matainence it. Whithin a few hours my 1st piano was as good as ever...---Years past, and it was time for more repairs on the old gal so my dad, being the handy man he is, had a friend help him pull the whole action out so he could "operate" on the 2 problem areas via his memory of the tuners work...Well...2 keys were broken before he started, 32 keys were broken after he tried fitting the action back into place. I still remember the long groans resonating from the piano strings as my dad tore the poor girl apart with a sledge to get her heavy self out the front door in peices. To make a terrible story better: My dad immediately went out and found me a new piano. A gorgeous antique that had been painted black about 13 times. We made a father/son project out of totally restoring it, keys anbd all, only to find that it was made of the most beautiful cherry wood you ever saw. After staining and laquer, it looked as beautiful as a sunset and years later sold for triple its cost. I've owned only a few pianos, but remember I them all very well, especially the old broken one where I started. Thank you, Joseph Presley The Fractal Abyss http://www.FractalAbyss.com

What a touching story. I'm glad you decided to share it. Well, I'm sorry your piano is broken..but- judging from your prior experience with your first broken piano..something even more amazing than this outstanding piece of work will be gracing your gallery soon? A dynamic and totally awesome piece of XD work..or any work. I like the way the small spiral stays beautifully centered amid the cool chaos. Bravo!

WAY cool image and a great tale, too, Joe. Joie keeps threatening to refinish mine. Actually her's but since we got married I've hogged it pretty bad writing my "magnum opii" on it. And I only use 7 fingers! - 5 on my right and 1, sometimes 2 on my left lol She "cheats" and uses TEN! This is some awesome XD work and it reminds me of the aftermath of a wild convention in some large ballroom. Amazing stuff!

A wonderful story going with a beautiful XD image, the story reminds me of the old piano my dad brought home one time, I didn't like the sound very much though, it sounded too much like an old piano lol, so that's when I bought my first synthesizer :)

What a story, she must have come back in your dreams to inspire you for this homage...How does the music sound from these distorted keys? I love this image Joe, you know I love chaotic and distorted images much better than the "ordered" ones.....Funny thing: I dreamt about a beautiful old piano this very night: A dream come true for my love Paul, who yearns to have his own piano... But Amsterdam appartments do not allow for real pianos, so a keyboard must do....

The image is great. I have the feeling that a number of playful gorillas had a party in a piano shop :)

Great image & story behind the image. Those old broken instruments have helped many a musician get started...and yes...we remember every single one of them.

It's so painful to see a broken piano, such a perfect and delicate creature. I heard from a friend that they have soul, and oh, I do believe that. Even if it's a part of your own soul.

Great image. I recently had to clean out my mom's old house, and in the corner of one room stood the old player piano we'd had for 40 years or so. Unfortunately the roof had leaked at just that spot after the Northridge quake of '94. There was no real way to save the piano, and I'll never forget the sound of all those strings singing out one last time when the sledge started its work... I now have a beautiful old Yamaha for when I get frustrated with the fractals.

What a great story to this image, Joseph. And it cooled my nerves because I was afraid that this work was going to be your last piano pic.... Pfwwww....
