Description

Sorry to upload such a boring picture but some of you have asked me to post an original of some of the images that we have posted in this series. This image, an H&E stained section of the dermis of the skin, is the original that we used to create Winter and Inferno (our previous 2 posts). This is what the medical student sees when he/she is learning about the histology of the skin. Almost all tissues are essentially colorless and we have to use stains on them to render them meaningfully visible. The most common stain by far in histology is the hematoxylin and eosin stain, commonly abbreviated H&E. Hematoxylin (H) stains the nuclei of cells bluish-black and eosin (E) stains the cytoplasm and other tissue components a pinkish color. 95% of all the tissues that we normally study are stained with H&E. This is probably way more information than anyone out there really wants to know, but oh well. This routine H&E stain can get rather boring after awhile. But the patterns, textures, and fabrics that are apparent to us in these stained tissue and organ sections are remarkable and our hope is that we can, though post-work, enhance these attributes while remaining the inherent fidelity of the tissue textures and patterns that the histologist typically sees. Thanks again for your comments and any suggestions, thoughts, etc. that you might have are appreciated!!

Boring?! Not the least! Interesting - and quite beautiful. As a medical student you have probably seen a lot of these, and therefore you assume that people will find it boring - but I would think that most people have never seen anything like it, at least I haven't - so I think it's amazing!

As erskogly: This happens to me very often too, if I see some 'i.e. landscapes or animals' nearly everyday I'm not sure for uploading because I think people will find it boring. But that's great on Rendo, that there are so many different people from all over the world with different knowledge,interests...Thanks for sharing this fascinating stuff !
