I took this pic in early March in Santander, whilst on a mini-holiday. I've not seen caterpillars do this before. Perhaps a more knowledgeable person could elaborate.

Lol this may be a pinery processional caterpillar I have heard about There was an experimant where they were placed on the rim of a pot and never got to where thay wanted a warm place to change in moths

Perhaps they're tent caterpillars? I suppose it'd be easier to spin a tent with the help of some siblings than all by yourself.
