Description

I know a lot of people going on trips soon. So here one if you close by it. It Red Mountian, Az. It between Flagstaff Az and the Grand Canon[miss spelled, it big and it I think 10 miles wide in some places] This is a volcano you have to hike a mile in to see it. On the road there a sign and as you turn in there a place to park then You hike for a mile in. as you walk you going to see the sand and sides of the rocks shine like a lot of jewels [if the sun hits it right]for it is a rare rocks that the volcanos make. you see the trees they are big trees so it show how big this side is. They call this the fireworks. for this the side that blow out some what, but not all the way. It the side that a lot of vents was at that wht those big holes are on the side. If I had hide up on top and over this side I would have seen the main vent a big hole. But I did not know it at the time. ask people in Flagstaff they know about the Mountian. The people in the Grand Canon know nothing about this mountian. oh yes you can camp there too. It just as grand as the Greand Canon but have a diff awl to it. yesitis3: http://geopubs.wr.usgs.gov/fact-sheet/fs024-02/ yestis3 had sent me this and told me Flagstaff is not in N.M. but in Az lolthat you friend

there is over 600 volcans in this area called the San Franciso Mountians, Oh the rocks is smooth so you can not clamb them . It like climbing on sandpaper but only hard. My son slip and it took some hide off of him . was not hurt but he was more careful.

yesitis3: Red Mountain, located in the Coconino National Forest of northern Arizona, 25 miles northwest of Flagstaff, is a volcanic cinder cone that rises 1,000 feet above the surrounding landscape. It is unusual in having the shape of a "U," open to the west, and in lacking the symmetrical shape of most cinder cones. In addition, a large natural amphitheater cuts into the cone's northeast flank. Erosional pillars called "hoodoos" decorate the amphitheater, and many dark mineral crystals erode out of its walls. Studies by U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Northern Arizona University scientists suggest that Red Mountain formed in eruptions about 740,000 years ago....This is what yesitis3 IM me lol I was in the amphitheater area. It was worth the one mile hike

Interesting landscape with beautiful formations - and if those trees are huge it's gotta be quite an experience to walk around this place.

You guys made me get my maps out. I know Flagstaff is in Arizona because of the Route 66 song, but I thought maybe there was one in NM as well. If there is it's really small because it is not listed in the atlas. Anyway, great shot. You sure go to a lot of interesting places and I'm really happy that you find so much joy in all of your adventures!

I'd never heard of Red Mountain. I'll keep it mind. It must be about 250 miles from here.

It looks almost like marble. Igneous and metamorphic is definitely something Baden_Powell puzzled over. An illuminating friendly photograph.
