Daemons are real enough
"their principle is always the same, that which misleads and deceives, and with tricks which darken the truth, lead away the credulous and foolish rabble"
it is relying upon daemons that is deceptive.
In this way the daemons passed from greek myth easily into Christianity as "demons."
