Description
A work-in-progress Earth model. First step toward a Sci-Fi scene. Made from 3 spheres: Land, Clouds+bump map, Atmosphere and 2 spot lights (Sun and 1/4 of Earth).
Had trouble making the outer (Atmosphere) sphere transparent enough, yet visible at edges. Making it "additive" helps, but adds to much brightness to cloud layer near sun. Any idea what filter shape or function i could use to make sphere less transparent at edges? Also, a refraction index of 0.99 almost works, but i need 0.999 - which reverts iteslf to 1 (sigh).
Many thanks to the unidentified person(s) at

Thanks for viewing and commenting folks! Vue 5 Infinite and the great satellite photos and advice at: http://www.oera.net/How2/Earth1.htm are the critical factors, plus careful lighting. Next going to try to add city lights to the night side of my Earth model.
