Description

Found this gal inside a planter. No macro here, this was as close as I dare get. She was in the process of relocating her egg sac when I, well, relocated her and her unborn to a new dimension. I had to post this photo to show how brave (stupid) I am! Happy Gardening!

Brilliant picture - great detail !! Love the way you've captured the fineness of the web and the motion of the leg. What sort of spider is it? Is it one you shouldn't get near?

Fantastic Shot!!! MossSphere - yeah, this is a black widow and you don't want to get near it at all. According to Jankowski's "Guide to Venemous Spiders of the World" (p.24) this spider is extremely dangerous - it's poison can be fatal to humans and the is no antivenin available to treat it's bite. The guide goes on to say "If you should happen to find one of these nasty creatures in your planter while gardening, you should sell your home and move to another part of the country." Again, a great shot. Good luck finding a realtor!

You sure put this in the right gallery. I'm glad we don't have those things where I live. At least from what I understand they prefer to live out doors, and won't invade living areas of houses.
