Description

'The Tsunami' Colour ~ April 1, 2005 Comments We all have different habits and how we go about it when photographing. I now find myself not using the view finder as with the 35 mm film camera, but relying on the LCD screen for my composition based upon shapes, lines and contrast. Therefore it is not until I am home and during the editing process that I see things missed in the field. Such is the case with this image 'The Tsunami' as it was not apparent to me at the time of the initial exposure, that I would be seeing a wave. A wave that reminded me of a Japanese wood block print by artist Katsushika Hokusai, '36 Views of Mount Fuji: Back of a Wave on the Open Sea of Kanagawa', {1831-1834). Link: 'Wave on Open Sea'. (thank you Kort) Thank you very much for the comments on 'Relics of Innate Combustion' the third in this series of six photographs. Technical Information: CAMERA: Sony DSC-V1, Aperature priority setting to f-8, ISO100, EV -.07, Tripod LIGHT: Available light PHOTOSHOP NOTES: Adjustment in Auto Contrast, Auto Levels, adjustments in levels and curves only to saturate and separate the hues from each other a little more. and slight Final adjustment in brightness/contrast. Thank you for your visit Vielen dank f

one can find the happiness in no man's land = it depends on what you're trying to find! what's to say more? every breath of nature is a sound of ourselves - every scent of perfume has a hint of love inside! I'm glad to see in your galleries a great variety! ~ respectfully, mihai ~

I forgot to mention yesterday how appropriate I found your title. I have the same comment today, especially after taking a look at the print you mentioned (www.cassdesign.com/images/panel46.jpg). I certainly get that sense of motion of a crashing wave, and such a great contrast against the warm ochre reds surrounding it. A perfect addition to this series!

Egmont, this is just fantastic!! These colours... spectacular! And yes, it looks like waves... Isnt it sometimes interesting to discover new sights in things we wouldnt have mentioned...? Thats the lovely side of life - to be surprised all the time, if youre ready for that experience... Wonderful image, I love this!! :-))

Thank you Kort, AKA: TwoPynts, for the link to the wood block of '36 Views of Mount Fuji: Back of a Wave on the Open Sea of Kanagawa' by Hokusai. Now others can make the comparison.

i see an explosion of LIFE here! i guess i see the dark rusty places like the earth before water made our world flourish. I do see the water and the wave...and even the sun just bursting all over the place. I see something exciting about to happen. i know this image is supposed to represent devasation, loss, and death, but while i feel the awe-inspiring power and energy...this image makes me feel like a whole new world opening up...just waiting for us to discover it. Your photograph is a world all to itself...just waiting to be explored! It's about the miracle of LIFE!!!! incredible capture!

A tsunami is the result of the earth stretching and flexing its muscle. It is breathing life and giving power to it, but when people, their homes and lives are affected, it is devastation, loss and death. Yet when I named this photograph 'The Tsunami', I was praising nature and her awesome power and beauty while keeping in mind the recent horrors this year in Asia, while still also trying to acknowledge the though of Kanagawa's woodcuts.
