Description
This is a close-up of the Scarce Chaser. Almost all insects are very hairy at closeup-macro. When you "hunt" dragonflies you must try to become a part of their environment. You walk/move slowly and in the meanwhile study the places where they like to sit down. For the photographer there are roughly two groups of dragons:
The "sitters" and the "patrolers". "Sitters" like to sit down at their favourite spots where as "patrolers" like to fly along/around there favourate place. You might like to begin with a "sitter"; if you spotted one you will probably chase it away when you approach it. Instead of chasing it any further, eager as you are, you wait! There is a chance it will return and while you wait you become a non interesting part of the environment. See what shows up, there might even land one on you. The longer (wait and observe) you can stay at sight-distance of a dragonfly the better are your chances of (slowly moving) getting within a shorter distance. A "dragonhunter" shows not much movement/interest in the beginning of the hunt! This is one way of doing it though :).
Next time: equipment.
