One has the sense that the decisions made by us in the next few years will determine what the outcome of how we humans will be remembered. I am amazed at what the best of us have accomplished and appalled at what the worst of us has done. As an artist I get a chance to put down a little of what I understand and how I feel. I don't know if anyone gets the message but I can't help trying.
BIOMr. Stephany was associate professor in Visual Arts at UMBC from 1973 until 2000 He earned his BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology and his MFA from Indiana University. He has exhibited at George Eastman House, the Museum of Modern Art, the Smithsonian Institution and has particpated in many group and one person shows. His work has been based on an interest in America's cultural transformation into the major world power, seemingly without any idea of what to do with that power. By using ideas from commercial television, pop culture and science fiction Mr. Stephany tries to explore the strange and fascinating mythology created by contemporary media.
