Description

Leaving Ameland at low tide means sailing to the mainland through relatively small canals around sand- and mud banks. Many thanks for your kind comments on my yesterdays posting, the harbour of Nes, Ameland! Ameland is one of the 6 Wadden islands north of the Netherlands. The north side of the island is facing the open North Sea. In between Ameland and the mainland you find the Wadden sea; a paradise for birds. The Wadden Sea is a typical tidal zone area which turns into a mud-flat area with grooves and channels at low tide. The mainland you can see from the island. Ameland is a 26 Km (17 miles) long and 3 km (2 miles) wide, except for the western part which is slightly broader. There are a few little villages and you find a lot of little houses build between 1700 and 1800, still in a perfect condition, nowadays with modern comfort. The most important houses were owned by the commandeers

I really do like the old-fashion mood of this image. You captured the atmosphere perfectly... and the bird is awesome ! Does it mean that this is the end of your Ameland series ? :-( and now, another one about Poland ? lol.... :~)

Nice. Almost looks like it was composed because of the mood and the perfect flyby of the bird. excellent.

Superb, the thumb jumps out at you, I thought it was more that one image, but now I'm not sure, reminds me of my boyhood travelling back and forth on the ferry, anyway it is a fantastic image.
